How is hair treated?

Hair is treated with laser or IPL depending on which is more appropriate for the hair and skin type as well as the area of the body being treated. Sometimes a combination of both IPL and laser achieves effective results on stubborn areas like facial hair in women.

Red or orange light is used for permanent hair reduction. The light is absorbed by the natural pigment in the follicle (melanin) and turns to heat energy, which denatures the protein in the follicles, destroying them. The surrounding skin is undamaged owing to a process known as selective thermolysis.

Melanin in the follicle is required to absorb the light so if the hair has no pigment the treatment will have no effect.  White, blonde, red or very lightly coloured hair is not suitable for laser hair removal.  Thick and/or very dark hair is quickest and easiest to shift permanently.

What can I expect during the treatment?

At worst the sensation is a mild sting and at best it's simply warm.  On very sensitive areas we can either use numbing cream or ice packs to numb the skin first.  Without pain management it's no more painful and than waxing and a lot quicker.

How much does it cost?

On average it takes from 6 to 12 sessions to permanently reduce hair.

COST PER SESSION:

Is there any down time?

There is no downtime with this treatment except that sometimes on very sensitive skins when treating facial hair, small red dots may appear temporarily around the follicles but they disappear within days.

How long will it take to see the results?

It takes approximately two to three weeks to see the full effect of one treatment.

How many treatments are needed?

Owing to the cyclical nature of hair growth in humans much hair will be dormant at the time of treatment. It takes on average 6 to 12 sessions to entirely remove an area of hair because we have to catch each phase of growth and treat the hair in batches over a period of time. Many factors determine the number of treatments required including hair and skin type and the area of the body being treated.

Facial hair in women can be significantly reduced and managed but it is the symptom of an underlying hormonal condition which needs to be addressed, so maintenance sessions may be needed for lasting results.
